street music

The guy on the left is playing a washboard - they drew a good size crowd with this music. Very interesting sound.
I was thinking this would be a good future 'theme day' - I think most cities have someone playing music somewhere, don't they?!

I love street performers. Unfortunately, I have to go to downtown Denver to see one, usually.

I, too, love street and subway performers. Have you heard about the experience of Joshua Bell, a classical violinist whom I have heard often with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra? Recently he play anonymously in the DC suburb and earned a grand total of $39.00. Guess I'll pay more attention to the performers from now on!
From the Washington post:

Post Magazine: Too Busy to Stop and Hear the Music
Can one of the nation's greatest musicians cut through the fog of a D.C. rush hour? Gene Weingarten set out to discover if violinist Josh Bell -- and his Stradivarius -- could stop busy commuters in their tracks."

You are right, of course Chris, but you can guarantee they won't be around when we have a theme day!

Thank you, JB, for posting the link to the Joshua Bell story. I wrote back to Kate that ever since reading that I've been really conscious about stopping with my kids when we're out & about to listen to music when we come across it. The article said every single child who stopped to listen to Joshua Bell was pulled along by their parents!
